An apparent meteor lit up the sky over St. Louis on Monday night — a dazzling display that was captured on the city’s EarthCam footage.
Twitter user David Vergel happened to be watching the live recording at about 8:51 p.m. local time when he witnessed the flaming ball fall from above the city’s skyline.
“I was watching an @EarthCam camera from St. Louis, Missouri about 30 minutes ago and saw a #meteor!” Vergel tweeted, along with a recording of the EarthCam footage.
Other Twitter users were quick to comment that they, too, witnessed the meteor.
“Huge flash came through our window,” one user wrote. “I actually went outside to make sure everything was ok.”
Another area man said he thought was a firework — then he heard a “low deep double boom” minutes later.
